A special retrospective programme «Our DNA» will be shown at The 15th Odesa International Film Festival. The programme includes 8 national movies:
«Getaway», directed by Volodymyr Tykhyi, 2017
Grandma Prisia, her daughter Slava and grandson Vovtshyk live their everyday life in a godforsaken forbidden zone of Chornobyl where there are only wild beasts, mermaids and stalkers. A world where people know what really happened in 1986 and why the situation in Ukraine is the way it is. At least Prisia – she is over 80 – knows.
«Hero of My Time», directed by Antonina Noyabriova, 2018
Young Zhorik dreams of conquering the capital. He is attracted by expensive shops, fashionable galleries and «European values» but for now Zhorik lives in a world of beer kiosks, cheap attractions and clogged entrances. It seems to our hero that he will soon cross the invisible border between the two dimensions of the great city of contrasts. But how to find a «social elevator» if even the elevator in the house cannot be repaired?
«My Granny From Mars», directed by Alexander Mihalkovich, 2018
Granny Zina is originally Ukrainian, but because of the current political situation, she has remained in Russian-occupied Crimea. Separated from her family, she lives in a forgotten seaside town while trying to decide whether to stay or to leave.

Lviv batyars Bodya and Mirek live under the slogan: «Love Lviv, women and jokes». In order for life to be bright, noble vagabonds resort to various adventures, while remaining positive heroes. Unexpectedly for themselves, they become guardians of a young beauty and their adventures gain new momentum. The events of the film take place in Lviv, in 1938-39.

It’s a dramatic story of Ukrainian writers who were gathered under one roof in order to make them work for the sake of the system. This is a film about a communist paradise turning into a communist hell. The story is based on real events.
«The Living Fire», directed by Ostap Kostiuk, 2014
The film follows three men of different generations living in the Ukrainian Carpathians: Ivan is an 82-year-old retired shepherd who lives a lonely life, having recently buried his wife. At the same time, nine-year-old Ivanko is just beginning his life and studying at the county boarding school, while 39-year-old Vasyl is raising young lambs on his farm. But when spring comes, all three men will head for the mountains following the shepherd’s calling that is becoming ever more difficult to sustain in the contemporary world.

Herman, 33, is getting by, working a meaningless executive job in a big city. One day he gets a strange call and learns that his older brother has mysteriously disappeared. Herman must go back to his hometown to defend the family business – a small gas station (and with it, old friends and a girlfriend from the past) – against the «kukuruznyks», mafia-type gangs that are grabbing up businesses and land in the Donbas region and turning them into corn fields and railways that lead nowhere.
The 15th Odesa International Film Festival will take place from July 12 to 20, 2024, in Kyiv.
